According to Statistics Botswana's formal sector employment survey results, overall formal sector employment in Botswana decreased by 0.6% in the period between September 2016 and December 2016. Formal employment decreased to 342,426 from 344,487 recorded in September 2016, resulting in 2,061 jobs losses in Decmebr 2016. The decline in formal sector employment was mainly driven by the Private and Parastatal sectors which recorded negative formal employment growth of 1.5% and 0.5% respectively, offsetting the 0.7% growth in Government.
