Formal Sector Employment decreases in H2 2017

Formal employment for June 2017 showed an overall decrease in the number of formally employed persons in Botswana. The total number of jobs lost between June 2016 and June 2017 was 1,724 across all sectors, resulting in a negative growth of 0.5%. The number of job losses in the private sector was 2,810, attributable to 34.3%, 0.1% and 0.7% negative job growth in Mining & Quarrying, Manufacturing and Construction respectively during the same period. Government and parastatals had growth 0.8% and 0.5% of new jobs created between June 2016 and June 2017 respectively.
